“Air-conditioning in classrooms is vital, we know it helps our children to learn to the best of their ability as well as providing our hardworking teaching staff with the comfortable working environments they absolutely deserve,” Mr Batt said.
“Just last week, LNP Leader Deb Frecklington MP and I met with a number of local P&C representatives to hear about what matters most in our schools and unsurprisingly, air-con was a hot topic, with everyone agreeing that the LNP’s policy to air-con all state school classrooms is fantastic.
“We even heard that students often ask when they will be able to enjoy the relief of air-con, just as all students based from Gladstone north do.
“Under Labor’s cooler schools program, Bundaberg misses out by just 200km, even though we endure the same extreme weather conditions, with sweltering temperatures and high humidity for the majority of the year.
“Just last month I asked the Education Minister a question in parliament to find out if any Bundy schools will benefit from the government’s additional funding for schools outside the zone and the Minister is required to respond by close of business on Friday (20/09/19).
“I have my fingers crossed that our local schools will see some benefit, but I am concerned Labor will spend the money maintaining existing air-conditioning units.
“The LNP has a plan to air-con all our state school classrooms if elected to government in 2020, but until then I will continue to call on Labor to do the same.”
