“Our farmers are seriously suffering under Queensland Labor; they’re dealing with soaring electricity prices, decreased water security and extreme vegetation management laws, only to be hit again with these ridiculous reef regulations,” Mr Batt said.
“No one wants to see the Great Barrier Reef come under threat, including our farmers, but these reef laws are excessive, unnecessary and don’t guarantee any benefit to the reef.
“I’m looking forward to hearing Dr Peter Ridd’s views at the Bundaberg lecture.
“The Burnett Mary catchment has been exempt from past water quality reef legislation, so our local farmers have really been blindsided with our region being including in this bill.
“When Labor announced these reef laws earlier this year, our farmers weren’t even given the opportunity for proper consultation, they were just given two weeks to make a submission.
“Queensland farmers deserve better and the LNP won’t stand idly by while the anti-farmer and anti-regions Labor Government attacks our farmers.”
