State Member for Bundaberg David Batt has today announced a future LNP Government will invest $1 million for improvement works on Bargara Road/Princess Street between Bunda and Olsen Streets.

Mr Batt said this part of the busy road was in desperate need of repair.

“With increased population growth at Kalkie and Bargara and numerous businesses located in the Bundaberg East area, this road has become one of the busiest thoroughfares in town and is used by many heavy vehicles as well as thousands of commuters every day,” Mr Batt said.

“Unfortunately, some parts of the road are in very poor condition, particularly the stretch between Bunda and Olsen Streets.

“As a result of limited repair work having been done since the major flood in 2013, there are significant issues with inadequate drainage and guttering, as well as uneven surfaces on this part of the road.

“Residents who live nearby have voiced concerns about this section of road for many years and I’ve raised the issues with the Government on numerous occasions, only to be advised the road’s current condition is considered satisfactory. I don’t think that’s good enough.
“To fix these significant issues and improve road safety, a future LNP Government will invest $ 1 million to reseal and improve Bargara Road/Princess Street between Bunda and Olsen Streets.

“These improvements will benefit the thousands of locals who travel on this road every day, as well as the residents who live nearby.

“The LNP’s transport plan will create new jobs, improve road safety and bust congestion.”

Local residents Marylin and Larry Baulch have lived on Bargara Road/Princess Street for 48 years and have raised concerns about its poor condition since 2013.

“There are ongoing issues with drainage and the gutters next to the road are continuously blocked, overall the general state of this part of the road is terrible.

“We are thrilled to see a commitment to fix this stretch of the road once and for all.”
