As your local voice, I am committed to holding the Government to account and fighting for our fair share.
Five generations of my family have called Bundaberg home. I am the youngest of three boys – the Batt boys! I was born here, I went to school here and my wife and I have chosen to raise our two beautiful daughters here.
I am a former police officer of 23 years, working as a detective and in child protection. After leaving the police, I served on Bundaberg Regional Council for almost ten years as a councillor and was the Disaster recovery co-ordinator in 2013.
When I left local government to take up this seat in parliament, as the 15th State Member for Bundaberg, a ratepayer sent me a heartfelt and greatly appreciated email that said that my authenticity would be missed in the council. I hope you, as Bundaberg constituents, will also come to see me as authentic. I have strong Christian and charitable values and firmly believe in giving people a hand up and not a hand out.
I understand that being the state member is a great privilege, not a right, so I make this commitment: I will serve you, the people of Bundaberg, with honesty, integrity and compassion for as long as you will have me represent you in state parliament.
