To help ensure Bundy kids start the New Year with a fresh school uniform, Member for Bundaberg David Batt has offered each of the 15 state schools in his electorate a cash donation for the purchase of uniforms.
Mr Batt said he is aware many Bundaberg families struggle to make ends meet, especially at this time of year.
“Raising children and ensuring they have everything they need is expensive, particularly after Christmas and school holidays,” he said.
“Australian education costs have increased by over 24% in the last decade* and although Bundaberg’s cost of living is comparatively low, so too is our average personal weekly income.
“As the local MP, I am committed to assisting the residents within my electorate and will always try to ease financial pressure whenever and however I can.
“Not everyone has the means to provide new, updated school uniforms for their children, so I hope this donation will provide some assistance and minimise the burden for families.
“I have donated directly to each school’s P&C committee as they are best to decide who would benefit most from the money.
“Each school has been extremely grateful and have advised a new uniform would mean a lot to some of their students and parents.
“I will also be continuing my barbeque raffle initiative this year and plan to offer another round of uniform donations mid-year.”
